FAQ

For whom is your service intended and who are your customers?

Our customers are active in all sectors seeking international exposure. From the small guest house looking for foreign visitors, right through to corporations that have used a multilingual website on a daily basis for years.

Do you translate manually or using machine translation?

We employ only technically qualified translators. Their native language corresponds to the target language you are looking for. An additional translator proofreads the work.

What is the difference between an interpreter and a translator?

The main difference between translators and interpreters lies in the respective means employed for communication: interpreting is an oral activity, whereas translation is a written activity. Interpreters work "live", which means that both their knowledge of the languages in question and their ability to communicate and speed of response in a speech situation are very important. A translator, on the other hand, can take more time - depending on the urgency of the project - to provide responses to the challenges that arise during translation work. Normally, both interpreters and translators work better in their mother tongue. Additionally, and although some people are able to work equally well as translators and as interpreters, the majority specialise in one of the two activities.

I'm not sure my text is in good English. Will the translated text have the same problems?

Definitely not, unless that is your wish. The target text will be impeccable even if the source is just pidgin. Please note, however, that if the source text is unclear, the translation process may be slow - we might need to ask you questions before going on.

Do I pay more for urgent projects?

Yes, urgent projects require more resources to have the job done. We will provide you with a detailed quote. If we cannot perform the job within the requested timeframe, we will provide you a time of delivery.

What methods of payment do you accept?

You can pay directly by bank transfer, PayPal or Moneybookers. We generally prefer not to receive checks, and must request a processing fee. Please ask for details.

Do you provide proofreading services and would it cost as much as a translation?

Proofreading is the revision of someone else's translation. If the quality is too low, as it is likely with some automatic translation services or if the text was translated by a non-native speaker, we must return to the original language text. If the correction process is as time-consuming as a translation from scratch, we would need to charge at a commensurate rate. If the correction process requires retranslation, we will have to apply our regular translation rates. If the text needs only minor copy editing, corresponding rates will be one-third of the translation cost.

Do I need to provide a glossary or references?

A glossary is the professional way of handling very technical texts. It ensures consistency between different parts of the document that may be assigned to different translators, and between different documents on the same topic. It is also the best way to make the process smooth and fast. So if you have one, do not hesitate do send it to us.

Do we have to redesign our web pages so that they can be translated?

No. Our system uses your original design and generates the new target language pages in exactly the same form as the originals. Only the text embedded in graphics is manually processed.

For whom is your service intended and who are your customers?

Our customers are active in all sectors seeking international exposure. From the small guest house looking for foreign visitors, right through to corporations that have used a multilingual website on a daily basis for years.

What does it cost to analyze our website and prepare a proposal?

The analysis and resulting proposal are prepared absolutely free of charge.

We have had some bad experiences in the past. Portions of the original text (e.g., the wording in the status bar or replacement text for images) were overlooked. Why is this not possible with your system?

Our process automatically separates the source code from the text. This guarantees that only pure text remains and that each individual character is included, regardless of where it is situated in the text.

We have dynamically generated Web pages. Can these be accommodated by your system?

Our system can use data from various databases and dynamic pages do not present a problem.

Our website changes frequently. Does all of the text have to be retranslated when there are changes?

No. That is a major advantage of our process. Our system stores all the information in its own database, so that it can detect later changes, even if they are extensive. As a result, only text sections that are new or changed are extracted for translation.

What happens if the design of our website changes after the translation?

Our system detects even fundamental design changes because text passages are aligned with one another. So, the same applies here: translation is only necessary for new or revised text passages.

An agency maintains and manages our website. We want to continue to work with this agency.

You can continue this relationship. In fact, we recommend that you do so. We would be pleased to work hand-in-hand with your agency. Many of our present clients are agencies.

We already have a multilingual website, but it is incomplete. Can you use the existing translated parts?

Yes, in general we can. We do recommend however, that the translated pages generated from the originals be proofread and possibly edited.

We are very satisfied with our translator. Can we continue to do our own contracting for the translation work?

Absolutely. We can generate a text file for you or for your translator, which needs only to be overwritten in the target language and returned to us.

Our website already has several languages. Can further languages be added without having to retranslate the existing texts?

Yes. We store the existing text passages in our database so that we can later easily maintain them.

We are in the Web design business and have a variety of customers. Can we work together?

Of course! Just get in touch with us. We already work with agencies and marketing specialists to benefit from synergies.

We are an agency that has created a "Content Management System" with databases for our customers. Can the CMS be interfaced with your service?

In principle, yes. However, each individual situation must be analyzed in detail.
